Jeep Wrangler Hitch Receiver (Mopar 82215209)

After reviewing many hitch options for my 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL, I first tried the Rugged Ridge 11580 (LINK). The build of this hitch was not bad, the welds looked good, and the price was pretty fair. One of the flanges was bent a little, and it did not look like this happened during shipping, as the box was OK, so I believe this was damaged at the factory. After returning this unit (and getting my money back since I did not want to wait), I continued to research what the best hitch was for my JL Wrangler Unlimited. Yes, I should have done this first, but hey, sometimes we are anxious to hop to Amazon and click buy it now without doing our homework.

After discussing with my neighbor who is a Jeep salesman, and where I purchased my Jeep, it was brought to my attention that for a few bucks more, go with the Mopar version, as if you ever have a warranty claim, and any concerns with the frame in this area, having a Factory Hitch reduces the amount of chance for them to deny a claim. I thought this was absurd, but considering the cost of the jeep, not a big deal to spend the extra $100 to get this right I thought.

I decided to purchase the Mopar 82215209 (LINK) from Amazon and was very happy with the outcome. The package was not damaged, the part was not damaged, and from visual inspection, appeared to be much more durable then the Rugged Ridge one. It also came with the Jeep Rubber Cap. Not really worth the $100 alone, but I’ll take it.

The photo on the left is right out of the box. The hitch, rubber cover, and hardware. It was pretty simple to install. The photo on the right shows me hanging the receiver hitch by one bolt to take the weight, and then simply put in the other far end bolt to hold up the other side. The fact that there are four bolts, two with nuts and two with welded nuts did not make much sense to me until installation. By starting with the two outer bolts, you do not have to fight lining up the bolt threads with the nut threads while holding the weight, you simply pope the two bolts in to hang it, and come back and insert the center bolts into the welded nuts. Genius!

This is the Final Install. Quick and Easy.

Based on all of the pros, I would recommend this. If you do plan to pull a trailer and need a wiring harness, this is the one that matches up with the Receiver Hitch. If you are just going to use a bike rack, save your money. In a separate review, I will discuss the wiring.
